Finally got around to finishing this Crow Shaman character I’ve had sitting around. I completely redid the body mesh and I much happier with it. Also spent last week doing the textures for everything. I didn’t worry about trying to make a super condensed “game” version with all the UVs on one map. I’m just having fun with this guy and wanted something cool to animate next.

Work stuff – Samurai
This is what I completed for work. This is a medium armor set that a player would gain. I didn’t want it to be too crazy over the top, that will be held off for the full Samurai gear.

A side project
While I’ve been working on these Alien animations I’ve been having this idea brewing to do a fun Captain American drawing. I love Ultimate Captain America and wanted to try my hand at drawing a cartoony version of him. I did this in about an hour a half (including the thumbnails to find the right proportions). I think it came out a lot like what I had in mind.

Its also brewing in my mind to model, rig, and animate this character. I’ve always enjoyed the entire process, and will be fun for this guy I believe. I’ll keep you all updated with the progress.

Work: Internal Project
Here are some sketches for an internal project at work. I can’t go much into it at this point, but I thought these would be fun to show. The direction here is taking Feudal Japanese Samurai and Ninja’s and giving them a Lego character feel to appeal to a 8 – 15 year olds. When approaching the basic character design I thought of how angular their armor is, ninja throwing stars and came up with the basic shape of their bodies being triangles. So they have wide stances. Hopefully I’ve succeeded there.
Here are some of the Samurai drawings, showing armor designs going from a peasant feel to full blown armor.
